A reason to hate Internet Explorer

I’ve been addicted to firefox and my friend Prady called me today to give me a reason to hate Internet Explorer. Prady called to tell me that the Superblog appears broken in IE. I fired up IE to see if there was any problem and to my surprise, only title of the first post appeared in IE. I checked with Firefox and the blog showed up without any problem.

I spent about 30-45 minutes investigating the issue and later found out that it the issue occurred when a post is formatted in MS Words & pasted using WordPress’s “Paste From Word” option. Microsoft’s word inserts some invisible characters in the post (visible only when you re-edit the post using IE) that make the text & sidebars go away.

I had to edit the posts to get the IE view back and hopefully, everything’s working fine now. That said, Microsoft, I need a solid reason to try out your IE8!

    I tried the IE 8 Beta 2. There is nothing great about it either. Nothing to match Firefox. The problem you are talking about is IE 6 specific and is not relevant to higher versions. And I don’t have the time nor the energy to support IE6 users on my blog, I show them a message asking them to upgrade or switch to Firefox. They are just making their life miserable by continuing to use that junk!

    Forgot to mention, they are making our lives even more miserable by continuing to use IE6. We have to spend endless hours supporting IE6. Hope people move on.

    @ Abid –

    Not really. I’ve been using IE7 for a long time. The problem occurs because IE is not able to render the special formatting inserted by Microsoft Word.

    @BigK:

    Ironic that word and IE are both made by the same company. Micro$oft could have handled this better! anyways good you’ve fixed it!
