Pardon me for my ignorance. But anyone knows any open source project led by Indians residing in India?

For past few weeks, I’ve been browsing so many open source projects. I just can’t believe how much work goes into open source projects. Have a look at wordpress – the platform which powers Big K’s superblog. It was created by Matt Mullenweg and released under GPL!

Mozilla – another open source project.

Joomla – Yet another open source project.

phpBB – Open source bulletin software.

Ubuntu – The whole Operating System.

But all are foreign based (meaning, initiated by people in western countries). Do we have any open source project by Indians based in India? If yes, please let me know. I’ll interview the founders on this blog.

If not, what’s our IT Generation doing?

PS: I know DimDim – open source conferencing project created by Indians. But that’s the only one I know.

Despite Zoho being based on open sourced tech, their products are not open. Nevertheless, their services are pretty cool 🙂

The is one OSS project related to Zoho called VTiger CRM (customer relations management).

“vtiger CRM has been deployed by thousands of enterprises in various industries around the globe. vtiger CRM customers include Aegon USA, Nokia, NYSE Euronext, German Postbank, Datentechnik, Data HQ Limited (UK), Eon Products, and American Broadband Family Of Companies”
