Rahul Gandhi as India’s Prime Minister

As most of you know – I’m not voting in this election. I’m not passing my judgement or opinion about who should be  the next prime minister of India. However I made couple of interesting observations while watching a live show on local TV channel.

The host of the TV show asked young fellas in the late twenties who should be the prime minister of India and why. Almost everyone wants a young prime minister. The only option they could think of was Mr. Rahul Gandhi. The TV show host then asked why they thought Rahul Gandhi should be the prime minister of India, the only reason the young fellas could come up with is this –

“He is young”.

What do you think?

Who sould be the prime minister of India? Why?

I’d love to see Mr. Advani as our next PM as he is the only deserving candidate right now. But I agree that he is far too old for the office.

Looking at Rahul (or Rajiv) Gandhi’s history, I would certainly not vouch for a ‘Gandhi’ PM

I feel Congress as a party is pessimistic in nature anyway

Good to hear that. I’m supporting BJP.

I think I’ll enter politics few years down the line.

@ Big K & mayur: you guys are supporting BJP & Advani.. crap! no way, How can we have a prime minister who encourages one religion philosophy- Hinduatva.
    Not BJP, please

I think our present prime minister is the best man to carry forward to the job.

@ Big K- I thought you are not voting… please don’t, it is better not to vote than voting for BJP

    @Pallavi: I ‘could not’ vote.

I’m not sure what’s wrong in supporting ‘Hindutva’. If all other religions can come under one roof, why can’t all Hindus? I support Hindutva does not mean I look down on other religions. I respect all religions.

I am not supporting BJP because they have the ‘hindutva’ philosophy. I support them because I believe they can bring a positive change to India.

For all reasons, I’m sick of Congress.

I don’t think BJP thinks the way you do…wish they did.. I too voted for them last elections.. not again! infact I am not voting either ( logistically not possible, not that I don’t want to)

i have an idea, you want to join politics a few yrs down the line.. join BJP and change their policies and thought processes! that may bring about a change and then I might consider voting for them ..

PS: you think BJP can bring about a change? for good? can you please help me understand that…

@ Pallavi: Yes, I do think that. I bet LK Advani would anytime be a better PM than Manmohan Singh.

Why? Well, the same reason you think Congress will bring about a change, for good.

I personally want to see Mr. Narendra Modi to become the PM of India, after LK Advani.

This is no ans to my question- you are taking a defensive approach!

My question was how do you see BJP making a difference for good. IF you think they can then I am sure you know how… if you tell me then maybe I can understand something that I am not aware of.

and why have you got Mr. Modi into this discussion ??? he is not even applicable for this post till next elections..

PS: and yes, the reasons for my thinking congress is better than BJP is simple I think the ethics of the Dr. Singh if not much at least are a shade better and yes, he defi is better human being out of the two.

@Pallavi: BJP is backed with RSS and I’ve personally seen RSS folks into action. Their ethics and values appeal to me and I believe they can drive the country forward.

Dr. Manmohan Singh has no charm, in my opinion. Everyone knows who’s the real PM of India. What makes me think BJP can make a difference for good? – I don’t have solid reasons because BJP didn’t really get a chance to rule the country. Let them give a chance and have LK Advani rule this country for next 5 years. If they don’t perform; bring back Congress. I don’t mind.

@ K I DON’T BELIVE IN RSS AND THEIR POLICIES. Different strokes for different folks! My main reason for not wanting to vote for BJP again is that they are backed by RSS- So NEVER!

Fyi BJP did get a chance to rule the country- If you remember Mr. Vajpayee was our PM for a full term before Congress came into power so they did get a fair chance. This might just interest you- I got an sms from BJP yesterday which said- forward our msg and slogan to 16 other users and get a guaranteed talk time of Rs 221- what would you call that- Sensible Strategy or a way to buy my VOTE! No I rather not vote than to vote for them.
Sorry you fail to convince me

    60 Years vs 5…

There’s no comparison. Rs 221. is nothing as compared to the total amount of money that went into SWISS banks during Congress rule.

@Pallavi: I’m sorry to say this but I think your knowledge about RSS, BJP and Mr. Advani is at the ground zero level. But I dont blame you. You are probably blinded by so called religion centric ‘Hindutva Vadi’ fundamentals of BJP. Please read biographies of Dr. Hedgewar or Dr. Golwalkar and you see a remarkable change in your opinion.

Advaniji or Narendra Modi by the way are the people who speak and act. With due respect to his stature, Dr. Manmohan Singh does neither.

Give us a break from Congress please. We need a strong leader now.
