Why do people burn candles to counter terrorism?
India, by now, is used to terrorist attacks and bomb blasts. Every time there’s a blast, I see people lining up with burning candles in their handles on the other day. In few parts of Mumbai they are painting walls and spreading ‘peace’.
Why do all educated people burn candles to show that they love peace and are ‘one’?

Nice Thought….
* I think candles mean Light….Faith, Hope
* Or maybe becoz Lighting candles were first done by Americans (Christians) and the rest of the world copied it.
* To Ward off the Darkness and evil.
> ** – It creates a sense of WE rather than I.
I too have same confusion after reading your this post ?? I never thought this .!
But what my logic is in pre attack our situations were peaceful and calm but post attack everything was deteriorated .SO we light the candle so as to light up our things normal means from darkness to brightness.
I think they burn candles because otherwise candles are of no use in Mumbai. The power seldom goes off.
In any case, I feel burning candles is a sign of weakness and surrender.
I feel it is just a silent way of protesting.
Because we ( the common man) cannot pick up arms and start fighting, doesn’t mean he feel like protesting. he can not take a step as shown in “A Wednesday”,so, this candle light march.
I find it something similar to what Gandhiji tried many years back. All those padyatras, Mukmorchas, charkha, Dandiyatra, did they directly helped throwing britishers out!
I guess not.
they just helped bringing all people together.
And when people come together, things do change.
And definitely this is no sign of weakness and surrender!
Lighting candles is also in memory of those who lost their lives in terrorist attacks. Its not a means to fight terrorists, but a symbol that people care and are united.
