Its Friday. Why are you happy?

I always failed to understand the reason why so many (working) people become happy on Friday and start celebrating the Weekend right away. I wonder why weekend makes (working) people so happy. Let me be very clear, I’m not opposing the happiness nor I’m saying that one should not be happy about/on weekends.

When I asked the reason, everyone had the same answer: Its weekend and they wanted their time away from office & boring work.

I wonder why people hate their job/work so much that they eagerly wait for the weekend. What’s the reason behind such a negative attitude towards work? For an IT engineer (I don’t have other examples because I used to be an IT engineer, so I can comment):

1. The work environment is very good [ ambiance ] .

2. The work load is not too much.

3. Your salaries are 4 times more than what you deserve for the job you do.

4. You get to travel to foreign countries.

Now tell that to other friends (who are into non-IT jobs) and see how jealous they get. But yet, you are unhappy about what you have. What do you really want?

Why do you hate your work so much that you eagerly wait for the weekends?

So as a kid in school, which did you look forward to more, Monday or Saturday?

I like weekends because I get to spend more time with my family. One realizes this even more when one has a spouse and kids. Such a working-woman-having-kids juggles her time between 100 things and hardly gets time to breath on weekdays. So its simple, weekend means relaxing & time with kids which is THE MOST IMP THING.

i want to wake up a little late, sip a coffee , dip a toast read a newspaper, call few people, which obviously is missed during work days. I guess its not about Friday, its about holiday. People would feel the same about monday as well, if tuesday and wednesdays were weekends

Don’t get me wrong folks. Looking forward to Weekends because you get to spend more time with Family is very well justified. But then, looking forward to weekend because you don’t like your office/job is something that needs a thought.

  5. Yes, I look forward to weekends because I hate my job. It’s true that:

    1) I have a comfy office.
    2) My work pressure is not killing.
    3) Given 1) and 2), I’m not paid bad.

But I hate my office, because it bores me. There is no challenge in my work, and I cannot see any goals(except the petty ones like a promotion or an increment, which do not mean anything to me). And without a concrete goal, life loses it’s meaning, don’t you think so?

@Mahul: That’s my point. If one knows there are no escapes, why don’t people just accept the fact that their lives aren’t going to change. Isn’t it high time one begins appreciating the comforts and luxury that you get at the expense of your creativity and technical ability?

If people think they should be doing more (or can do more), they should just do it. If not, just be the part of current system and instead of spending life waiting for the weekends, just start celebrating the weekdays.

    That’s what I’m saying.

Work is not every thing. I like spending time for myself and with my own self. Besides, you obviously need a break.

Are you against happiness by the way? Lot of people in the world wait for the weekends. Why are you bothered?

@Big K: What matters is that people are happy. Being more happy on Fridays do not mean that they are unhappy on the other days

Friday is the best day to go out at night. It is better to stay in my home and putting up with boring conversations of some relatives.

Except very few people we work because we need money to survive..
Thus we are not passionate about it, if we are passionate about our work we dont get tired or bored or what ever!
