I obtained this through email source. I’d not believe it, but I think it’s got an iota of truth to it. I think these guys perfectly succeeded in what they planned –

Lord Macaulay

Lord Macaulay

I highlight the “for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own….”. Well done, folks! We are proud of our English abilities and that’s given us an edge over China. Everything foreign is greater than anything Indian. Parents speak to their tiny-tots in English and look down on others who speak in their mother tongue. What should have shamed us, is a matter of pride now.

Look at the Germans, Japanese, French and Chinese. They’ve well ahead of the world even without English.

Someone tell me, what’s wrong with us? We’re still a developing country with thousands of people who sleep empty stomach.

Although I dont believe in the validity of this picture, I do agree with the view. But then, most countries that were assimilated by the British empire have turned out like that. You state examples of Japan, France and China yet they were not occupied for over a 100 years in an impressionable age of freedom. It may not look like the right thing to us today, us adopting the values and teachings of our oppressors, but back in day when our country was still occupied, either you did that or died. And our survival instincts took over.

It would be near impossible today to go back to our roots, the world around us is heavily influenced by all things western. Either you have freedom for your people, or be like North Korea and block all trade, communication and relations with everyone else to promote your own culture.

i've read this one long back… when in school i guess. it's a pity we don't respect our culture and tradition like even 50% of what the foreigners think of us. even if people are made to read these kind of articles daily, they prefer sticking to the western culture and look down to traditional people like they are some cavemen.
