The world is full of weasel electronics companies who employ lots of weasel engineers who, at any moment of time, are busy plotting to take out money out of other engineers pockets. The Gadgetophilia aka the intense love for electronic gadgets primarily exists among engineers, but I found out that it’s spreading among others like swine flu.

‘Restlessness’ is the epic symptom of gadgetophilia. The moment you spot a better electronic gadget in someone else’s hand the symptom kicks in. You feel like snatching it from their hands and run away. I’ve had this gadgetophilia since long and it’s resulted into me wasting quite a big amount on acquiring gadgets which where kicked out of life by their own next versions.

The weasel companies add just few more wires, make the device thinner, fix few bugs in the software and release a new device – and I’m on the Internet checking out ‘unboxing’ videos the very next moment. I remember I stayed awake late night just to see Samsung announce their very own Samsung Galaxy Tablet and the Galaxy SII phone.

While I was making up my mind to acquire the Samsung Galaxy 7” tab, the company announced a 10” and 8.9” tab. Darn! Now all I’ve to do is wait until those tabs release in Indian markets. Or get an iPad 2 which is notoriously popular and bombs the bank. Then there is Galaxy SII – with SAMOLED plus screen which makes my Samsung Wave lose all its shine and I can’t decide whether I should shell out 31k rupees for it. Annoyed

Have you been stuck with the intense love for electronic gadgets? Comfort me by telling that I’m not the only one who loses money on gadgets that are totally unnecessary.

Interesting point you made in the post.

and leader among the companies you mention is Apple.

It adds a letter “i” infront of it’s gadgets and people go all drool over it.

  2. Working now in one of those weasel companies, all I can add is that it has been far more satisfying to contribute towards a physical product than a service.
