Drinking Cola (Coke & Pepsi) Is Stupid. Period.

People get surprised and sometimes even laugh at me when I tell them I do not drink. “Try It”. Come on, “Try It Once!”. “Try It Just Once, You Will Love It”. “You Should Try It At Least Once In Your Life!” – my friends have tried it in several ways; but couldn’t get me to ‘try it’. The ‘bigger shock’ came to them when I tell them I don’t drink ‘soft drinks’ as well. “Come on dude, it’s just coke! The world loves it!”. Well, I admit that I’ve consumed coke & pepsi as a backup when I was with my friends on a dining table full of killed animals & alcohol. I sometimes wonder who discovered this way of ‘partying’ and ‘enjoying’. Anyway, today I found out that I’m giving up on coke and pepsi as well as my backup plan and reverting to tap water or lemonade in emergency cases. No matter how ‘uncool’ it makes me among people, I’m going to do it. Soft Drinks

People just laugh it off when Baba Ramdev calls cola & pepsi as ‘Toilet Cleaner’. Everyone knows that both these soft drinks are nothing but combination of chemicals – which isn’t quite useful to human body. I don’t buy the “thirst quencher” label attached to any of the soft drinks. I’ve never had my thirst quenched after consuming soft drinks. Think about it logically – the cold drinks are what they are called “COLD” drinks. If you put anything very cold in your throat, it makes you forget sensation in throat for some time. All it does it just kill your thirst temporarily.

Look here’s common sense – human body is *not* meant to consume coke. It’s been designed by nature to consume ‘water’. You and I agree with the basics, right?

Then we need people from the west to tell you that these soft drinks are better used as “stain removers”. Don’t trust me? Lifehacker wrote a post on the blog that says how you can remove tough stains with cola or pepsi. Just empty a can of coke/pepsi in your washing machine along with the detergent and water – and watch the magic. Read Lifehacker Post Here.

The bigger problem is – we don’t follow our own common sense. I know you still want to be ‘like your friends’ and ‘cool’. You want to be with the modern times, young, happening and awesome – whatever. But the bottom line is, if you consume soft drinks – YOU ARE AN IDIOT.

PERIOD.

PS: Wonder why Amitabh Bachchan stopped doing Pepsi Commercials after stomach surgery? Any connection?

    Super ‘cool’ post.
A bottle of pepsi costs 12-15 Rupees. One can buy 2 oranges for the same cost. Better to drink orange juice as it has got Vitamin C in it. Pepsi has got nothing but pure calories and some carbonic acid which can help one get rid of one’s teeth.

Every section of society is addicted to very harmful substances purely because of mob mentality.Take the case of poor people, most of India’s poor can be seen munching tobacco. A pack of tobacco may be costing 5 rupees. Can’t they eat a banana instead. Much more nutritious.

Children can be seen demanding there parents Lays or Kurkure instead of eating nutritious homefood such as paratha or poha. I read somewhere that children get addicted to such stuff because of the colorful ads and packaging of such products.

So , being cool as is understood means following the mob and colorful ads while keeping one’s brians in hibernation.

Thank you for supporting. I found out that coke and pepsi have pH value of 2.8. Acidic! Ha!

    Hi there,

A new follower, I have read several blogs of yours.
Honestly NOT all but i do agree with most of your views, including this one, as I have heard some where “When you are thirsty … you just need water.”

If people agreed with my views; I’d not be writing this blog.

Just want to bring to your notice that lifehacker post doesn’t subscribe to the viewpoint that drinking soft-drinks in moderate proportions is harmful. That post claims the quite the opposite after citing another source : http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/acid.asp

This is from the above link:

“The rest of the claims offered here are specious. Coca-Cola does contain small amounts of citric acid and phosphoric acid; however, all the insinuations about the dangers these acids might pose to people who drink Coca-Cola ignore a simple concept familiar to any first-year chemistry student: concentration. Coca-Cola contains less citric acid than does orange juice, and the concentration of phosphoric acid in Coke is far too small (a mere 11 to 13 grams per gallon of syrup, or about 0.20 to 0.30 per cent of the total formula) to dissolve a steak, a tooth, or a nail overnight. (Much of the item will dissolve eventually, but after a day or two you’ll still have most of the tooth, a whole nail, and one very soggy T-bone.)

Besides, the gastric acid in your stomach is much stronger than any of the acids in Coca-Cola, so the Coca-Cola is harmless.

The next time you’re stopped by a highway patrolman, try asking him if he’s ever scrubbed blood stains off a highway with Coca-Cola (or anything else). If you’re lucky, by the time he stops laughing he’ll have forgotten about the citation he was going to give you.”

As someone who is still skeptical about the nutrition value of drinking soft-drinks and who is thinking of giving up on drinking it, I must confess that there is definitely something to coca-cola that makes it difficult to give it up and preferable to lemon-soda or water from a biological point of view, instead of just a tendency to comply with the sick materialistic culture.

      – I gave it up, and it’s easier. Just don’t buy it and say ‘no’ when someone offers it.

-Liquid soap, when consumed in minute quantities is harmless. Well?

I would be more motivated to give up drinking it on moral grounds, since I find it tasty in its own respect. Coca-cola, like other similar MNCs, are a symbol of clever exploitation of the loopholes in the current socio-economic model. According to come documentaries, the labor involved in procuring the raw materials for the product is also horribly exploited. So, I would first give up on drinking branded soft-drinks and go for the indigenous ones and then, perhaps give it up all together.

…and the companies siphon out billions of rupees every year because people are unable to crunch their thirst with water.
