My Only Expectation From Indian Railway Budget 2014

Indian Railway Minister, Mr. Sadananda Gowda will present his plans for the coming year for the Indian Railways. Indian Railway, if I’m informed properly, is world’s #3 network. It also is one of the biggest carriers of goods and people in India – and the budget matters a lot to the overall economy of India. While there are talks of a lot of ‘new things’ being introduced for the railways, my only expectation from the railways is this –

Make The Railway Stations & Wagons Clean & Maintain Them!

I don’t mind if people are asked to pay Rs. 5 more just to make it happen. I had vowed not to travel by train or by bus; and take flights whenever possible, ONLY because of the pathetic condition of Indian Railway. I simply cannot spend more than 5 minutes on any damn Railway Station in India and I’m not exaggerating this! I’m prepared to stay hungry for days just to save up for flight tickets, but avoid trains!

I hope my wish will be fulfilled.

This is a really desirable expectation. Something which we all have. And the government should definitely do some thing about it.

But at the same time, don’t you think the people are more to blame for this. You travel by general, 2nd class, AC 3 tier or 2 tier. You will find that toilets are unclean. So it can’t be blamed on lack of education of poor people. The rich and highly educated are equally to blame. Public hygiene and cleanliness is certainly a lesson which we Indians have to learn from our Western friends.

Visit any engineering campus and notice the area around refreshment stalls. It is filled with litter. Aren’t people who are doing engineering substantially educated for them to know the importance of public hygiene ?

So summary is attitude of Indians as a whole should change.

Some issues such as diplomacy, corruption , bad policies ; government is to be blamed.

But issues such as poor performance of the economy , cleanliness is simply inefficiency of us people on an average. Of course, there will be exceptions.
